My name is Trina and I am 33 years old. I graduated with a 2.1 BSc PPE (Politics, Philosophy and Economics) degree from the University of Warwick in July 2012. I have since worked as a Mathematics Teacher in Haywood Engineering College in Stoke-on-Trent through the Teach First Programme. I have also worked as a HR Consultant, Workday Lead and Senior Manager in HR Compensation (which involves a lot of mathematics) for more than 10 years for leading companies such as Clifford Chance, Willis Towers Watson and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
After going to Northwood College for secondary school, and having taken the 11+ examinations myself, I have a unique understanding of the techniques needed to perform well in these exams. My experience in working as a teacher, as well as in other sectors allows me to teach students what is required academically to do well in their exams, but also encourage them to see how they can apply their learning to whatever they choose to do in the future, and provide career guidance if that is something they are interested in having.
I am tutoring in Maths and 11+.
I achieved 7A* at GCSE including in Maths and the Sciences. I achieved 3As at A-Level in Maths, Economics and Religious Studies, and an A in AS-Level Physics (my marks were equivalent to 4 A* in A-level as A* was not introduced as an A-level grade when I took them, including full marks in some Maths, Economics and RS modules). I I know how daunting these exams can seem to students, and in addition to improving subject knowledge, I hope to develop their self-belief so they can perform to the very best of their ability.
Whilst working as a HR Professional in the corporate sector for the last decade, I continued tutoring a couple of long-standing students, as well get involved in pro-bono tutoring and mentoring for disadvantaged children via my workplaces.
Prior to moving back to London, I was a Mathematics Teacher in Haywood Engineering College in Stoke-on-Trent, teaching Key Stage 3 and 4 (GCSE standard) Mathematics. I was also a Teacher in the after-school tutoring club held by my school.
I was also fortunate enough to teach Key Stage 3 and 4 Maths and English abroad in a residential school in Rajasthan, India.
Additionally, whilst I was in sixth form, I tutored GCSE Mathematics students in Northwood College, which was my first ever experience of tutoring.
In addition to tutoring, I also gained valuable transferable skills through mentoring in school and university. I was also a Teach First HEAPS (Higher Education Access Programme for Schools) mentor, which involved helping students with their UCAS applications, their exams, and preparation for university.
My aim as a tutor is to provide engaging and dynamic lessons so that the student can perform to the best of his or her ability, and to develop their self-belief. This self-belief will allow them to take on future challenges that they might face.
I tailor my teaching to adapt to the needs of the student and facilitate their learning. My lessons combine improving their subject knowledge, with learning good exam technique, which will prepare them for their further education in the coming years.
