Upraaj

My name is Upraaj Bains, a 2nd Year Student at the University of Surrey majoring in Economics and Finance. I have a passion for mathematics and its applications in the financial world. I would like to share my passion and aid students in performing well in their exams. Outside of my academics, I am a martial arts enthusiast, having won a Gold medal in a Competition hosted in Frankfurt, Germany.

Tutoring Experience

I have experience as a Maths Tutor on MyTutor, where I have learnt how to establish good relationships and rapport with the students to maintain a good lesson atmosphere and help teach effectively. I also have experience in teaching martial arts to students of all backgrounds.

Tutoring Approach

As Maths is a problem solving subject, I like to dedicate my time to working through practice questions with my students. To gauge the students understanding of maths topics I set a past paper for the student to complete in the first 1 or 2 lessons. After marking the paper and working through mistakes with the student, I note down topics the student struggles with. Prior to future lessons, I gather/prepare topic specific practice questions to cover in lesson. I will begin the lesson with a review of the key formulas and concepts in the topic and then proceed with the practice questions. At the end of the lesson I ask for feedback on the lesson to understand what I can do to improve my teaching approach.
