I'm Vanessa and I run a small tutoring company specialising in Maths, English and Science. I am a UK trained former secondary Head of Maths and specialise in nuturing students to foster a love of maths. My own daughter struggled with maths at primary and was in bottom set. As a single mum my parents helped to pay for tutoring to build her confidence and improve her knowledge. It was this experience that led me to train to teach and progress to tutoring. I offer small group sessions that are affordable for parents who maybe in the position I found myself in with my daughter and more personalised 1 to 1 sessions.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching in secondary for 7 years and have a vast knowledge of exams and different boards. I have been head of KS3, a second in maths and a head of maths. I have great success with my students, many in my classes achieve higher than their target grade and I have seen progress of 2 grades or more in an academic year with many students.

Tutoring Approach

I teach in a mastery style for understanding. I show concepts using multiple representations before moving onto the abstract maths. I see limiting beliefs in many of my students that create a barrier to their understanding and ability to learn maths. I remove these limits by showing students that they can be successful and this in turn leads to an enjoyment of maths and great results moving forward.
