My passion is exploring life and the world around us, and when teaching Science I aim to enthuse my pupils with the wonders of our world. Science is an exciting subject with many challenges and unanswered questions that I love to explore.
I really enjoy teaching - to me it is about helping learners to learn and discover things for themselves, and to give them a sense of achievement, confidence and purpose.
I have a young daughter who keeps me very busy, and my hobbies include being out in the countryside and visiting places with her, and spending time with friends and family.
I am a qualified Science teacher of over 20 years and have been tutoring A Level Biology (all syllabuses) and all GCSE Sciences full-time since January 2011, including iGCSE Biology to Home-Educated pupils.
I also have several years experience as a Marking Examiner for GCSE Biology and GCSE Science, which helps me to explain to pupils what examiners are looking for in answers!
2014-2017 I worked part-time as a GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics teacher in two local independent schools.
Since qualifying as a Science teacher in 2002, I have taught A level Biology in Wiltshire for a year, carried out supply teaching in a range of subjects and spent a great five years teaching in a Portsmouth school where I taught all of the Sciences to GCSE (Sept 2005-July 2010), including taking responsibility for the Separate Science groups in the school.
I always ran popular after school revision classes, and had many pupils come to me throughout the school day for help and support in addition to my interactive lessons with them.
I spent 4 months teaching A Level Chemistry and KS3 Science in a school in Gran Canaria during Autumn/Winter 2010.
I have an open, supportive, flexible approach to explaining any topics required, in order to boost confidence, understanding and enthusiasm of the science subjects. I use exam questions as part of a structured revision programme, as I feel this proves to be one of the best methods of improving grades.
