Vivien

I am an experienced Classics teacher of Latin, Ancient Greek, and Classical Civilization, from KS3 to A level. I teach full-time and am Head of Classics at a grammar school; and I also do some work as a private tutor, teaching students one-to-one online. I graduated from Edinburgh University with an MA Honours in Classics in 1985 and have taught Classics since 1997. Tutoring Experience

I have many years of experience in teaching Latin, Ancient Greek and Classical Civilization (since 1997); I have to date tutored 200+ hours online, helping students prepare for: Common Entrance exams for Year 9 entry, GCSE exams and A Level exams. I have extensive knowledge and experience of OCR, Eduqas and IB exams. With an MA Honours in Classics from Edinburgh University, I also have two teaching qualifications (iPGCE and TEFL), QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and speak five languages: English, Dutch, French, Italian and German. I'm Head of Classics at a grammar school in Kent, and tutor a number of private students online in the evenings.

Tutoring Approach

In my initial conversation with the tutee together we identify the areas where they believe help is needed. We then set up a plan of action together for the lessons. I believe it is important to build a rapport with the student and for the student to be happy with the way I explain things and what I teach. I have a large supply of teaching material, including past papers, which I make available to the tutee. I enjoy tutoring students one-to-one, working to support them in achieving their very best in the subject and help them gain more confidence and prepare solidly for their exams.
