I am a Biomedicine graduate of the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England and a fully qualified Secondary School Science teacher specialising in Biology and Chemistry. Coming from a family of teachers and school workers I have been brought up with the importance of education and belief that having a strong, broad education opens the doors to a variety of opportunities in later life. I love to teach and talk about my biggest passion, Science! I specialise in Biology and Chemistry, having taught Biology from 11 to 18 year olds including A level and Chemistry from 11 to 18 and some aspects of the A level course. What I enjoy most about teaching and tutoring is the opportunity to engage with students and bring Science to life, giving context to all my lessons and helping students to realise that Science is literally all around you. Everything you do, every small detail that you notice about the World can be explained with Science and I hope to help students find a passion that they might not have previously thought of.
Outside of my Science teaching I place a huge emphasis on extracurricular activities and encourage students to pursue their interests alongside their academic studies. Whether that be sport, music, gaming or reading I love to hear what students enjoy outside the classroom and always make time to talk to students about these. For me, teaching and tutoring isn't all about having your head down writing endless notes, or spending hours staring into a textbook practising questions, its all about finding an enjoyable way of learning and contextualising complex content to make it memorable. I also promote a healthy work life balance as a healthy balance promotes a healthy and functioning brain. I was an international modern pentathlete when I was younger and continue to train to this day, so I understand the difficulties with time management and can provide tips to make studying more manageable.
Almost 3 years teaching all 3 Science subjects within classrooms and experience of practical skill teaching. I have taught exam groups (GCSE, A Level and BTEC) and led sessions surrounding study skills and ways to optimise revision time. Experience within a tutoring company which specialised in English and Maths for students 4-18.
I believe that context is key, the best way to learn is to make students aware of why they are learning a topic and how it contributes to life. Whether that be a Science concept which explains something they have seen before or a study skill which revolutionises how they revise, making students aware of the relevance of learning is important. I also place a large emphasis on building a strong teacher/student relationship, I strongly believe in extracurricular activities to balance academia so I love to discuss these with my students and build a strong relationship.
