I am a friendly, patient and enthusiastic high level teaching assistant (HLTA) who has extensive experience in early year education and in particular, phonetic studies (phonics). Having served for 20 years, I have led many classes as the sole teacher and have gained valuable insight into what's required for students to achieve their maximum potential. Due to my stints across multiple year groups spanning reception to year 6, I am aware of the expectations of several curriculums. Therefore, I aim to combine my experience with my passion for learning and education in order to instil the knowledge and ethos required for success in my students. Given the current challenges children in education are facing, additional support is necessary to ensure they continue growing and I can offer that.

The first session involves assessing the child's current competency levels and which topics are most challenging for the child so future study can be tailored. From this point, I usually schedule a plan for the next few sessions detailing the topics to be covered. The order of topics is set to ensure basic understanding is achieved first before moving on to more difficult concepts. I use the necessary props and materials to support the child with both visual and auditory learning. I encourage questions and regularly test the child's progress, giving digestible homework wherever necessary. Overall the learning plan for each child is unique and tailored to support them with learning fundamentals. In addition to English and Maths, I can offer homework support and general study guidance. Given the severe disruption to education due to the pandemic, this is more important than ever.
