Alex

Hi, I'm Alex, I've been teaching Science & Maths since 2008, and have been tutoring since 2016.

In that time I have successfully helped many students to achieve the results they've needed to progress into 6th Form, Grammar School & University.

I am dyslexic myself so I understand how difficult it can be to learn at times and so I always focus on the wins the students are making! I have good experience of working with students struggling with Dyslexia, Autism, ADHD, and Asperger's. etc.

I'm good at listening carefully to the misunderstandings that are holding students back and in these times of social and emotional strain, I focus on providing a welcoming and reassuring session at all times.

I have DBS Clearance and I'm familiar with all the major exam boards - OCR, AQA, Edexcel & WJEC.

Tutoring Experience

As well as running Revision, Homework & Science Clubs for small groups in Schools, I have also tutored individuals in the following areas:

A-Level Chemistry & Biology
GCSE Chemistry. Biology, Physics & Mathematics
GCSE Environmental & Land-Based Science
KS3 Science & Mathematics
Degree Level Chemistry
GAMSAT Medical Entry Exam
11+ Entry Exam

Tutoring Approach

Over my years of teaching I've seen key areas of need that all students benefit from, so my approach focuses on:
• Confidence Building - Starting at their level and raising the bar incrementally
• Practice - lots of questions from my personal bank of real exam papers
• Memory - a set schedule of memory boosters, developed by me
• Motivation - this generally comes from the student but I can also use values-centered goal setting, which can be very helpful.

I am happy to work online and face-to-face, with one-to-one, and with small groups.

For A-Level I very much ENCOURAGE group work - students benefit hugely from hearing each other's questions. Hence I can offer a sliding scale for group work:
*** £40 session for One
*** £30 for Two - Three
*** £25 for Four or more
GCSE prices are as stated at the side of this page, with potential discounts for any groups that want to meet together - please message me about this, thank you :)
*** = Money back guarantee if not happy with the first session, to allow you total peace of mind. :)
Many thanks for reading,
Alex
