ONLINE AVAILABLE. I am the former Head of Maths at a successful secondary school and sixth form college with over 10 years of tuition experience. I have been routinely teaching both large and small groups of students to be successful at Maths, providing accurate demonstrations, explanations and prompts to move them forward with their learning. I have helped students at all levels - whether they want to improve KS3, manage their grade 4 for college or achieve an A* in Further Maths. I taught and managed a wide variety of mathematical courses at KS3, GCSE and A-level, including Maths, Further Maths and Statistics giving me a sophisticated understanding of not only the course content but how to implement its delivery. I understand the challenge required for learners with different targets and devise tasks appropriate for their starting point. In nearly all cases I have taught students in your situation before and have a rich bank of resources to help in a time efficient manner. With tuition the cost has to be weighed against time efficiency and my post as head of Maths ensures that not only do I have a thorough knowledge of Mathematics, as many tutors do, but that I have extensive curriculum, exam and pedagogical knowledge. Assessing the situation quickly and allocating time to topics that will make the most difference to you will equate to money well spent. I have a first class degree in Maths and qualified teacher status. I am very confident you will find my approach effective and if you are unhappy with your lesson for any reason, let me know and it is FREE.
I have held a number of responsibilities such as: Head of Maths, Head of House, and Intervention lead. This range of experiences over time have helped me to see how learning progresses from both an individual and a class perspective. I have also taught people individually for over a decade, with many very complementary reviews.
It is important to master topics in depth but also to return to previous skills periodically. I like students to go over each topic in sufficient detail, covering many possible variations before moving on to make sure your knowledge is secure. Most schools are now using a 'mastery' approach in Mathematics and this has never been more important within A-level where the challenge of questions has increased dramatically. If the sessions are in the run up to exams working through past papers works well, as it tackles issues in exam style whilst refreshing the students knowledge of the material. Exam questions are also important for ensuring students work at the expected level.
