Please contact me today if you require assistance with the 11+ and ISEB Common Pre-Test exams. The preparation covers everything necessary for the CEM, GL and ISEB assessments.
I am a highly qualified English and Maths teacher (BA MA QTS) with thirteen years of hands-on successful teaching and tutoring experience. I have worked in independent and state schools as well as Further Education colleges.
I provide outstanding one-to-one and online lessons, home education and educational resources to build students’ enthusiasm, confidence and skills in the two core subjects – English and Maths – and prepare them for an array of examinations: 11+ (GL & CEM), Common Entrance, SATs, GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level, IB, IELTS and ESOL. I have extensive experience and I am qualified in preparing and delivering courses to students with autism and Specific Learning Difficulties. I am a former school governor.
I am a firm believer in education and I have a true passion for learning. As a consequence, I have two degrees: I graduated from the BA in English Language and Literature and the MA in English Linguistics. Moreover, I have five postgraduate diplomas in Mathematics, English, Dyslexia, Literacy and Education. I am a member of The Tutors’ Association (MTA).
Recently I held the position of Maths Lead Teacher in an independent school. Prior to that, I worked as a Maths and English teacher in a comprehensive school where I was responsible for planning and delivering lessons to KS3 and KS4 students and monitoring their progress. I have considerable experience in working in Further and Higher Education sectors. I worked as an English Language Teacher at an FE college and a Research Assistant at one of the UK's leading research-intensive universities.
I have extensive experience and success in preparing children for the specific criteria of the 11+ entrance exams in Hampshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire: Kendrick School, The Abbey School, Leighton Park School, Reading School, Lord Wandsworth College, Farnborough Hill, Salesian College, St Nicolas’ School, St Joseph’s College, Langley Grammar School, Reading Blue Coat School, Aylesbury Grammar School and Upton Court Grammar School.
The preparation covers everything necessary for CEM and GL Assessment 11+ examinations. It is also excellent preparation for Verbal Reasoning, Mathematics and English examinations in the independent sector as well as the KS2 SATs exams.
Initially, I ensure a rich and rigorous foundation before preparing children for the demands of the exam itself. English and Maths are covered in great depth with the aim to ensure that children will be exceeding national levels by the time they sit the examination. The students who have reached the interview stage of the 11+ exam at an independent school will receive outstanding interview skills coaching. I understand that the interview process is difficult to prepare for and schools will be looking for confident and articulate students.
As an experienced secondary school teacher, I have sound knowledge of the English and Mathematics curricula, specifications and assessment criteria of the following exam boards: AQA, Edexcel and IGCSE. I pride myself on having a wealth of experience and knowledge in preparing students for GCSE English and Maths exams. Accurate assessments of each child’s abilities are conducted in the initial session. This assessment is used to create an individualised tuition plan that will provide short-term targets that are continually reviewed for long-term academic success. During the intensive exam preparation, English and Maths mock tests are taken monthly as a means of measuring students’ progress and reinforcing their understanding and exam technique.
I have a reputation for quickly striking up an excellent and good-humoured teaching relationship with learners. By forming good relations with my students and explaining the required concepts clearly, I manage to keep them interested and guide them to achieve success. I always try to make learning with me colourful and fun, rather than frightening and onerous. I work keenly with students who struggle with their confidence and ability in English and Maths and effectively build enthusiasm and confidence in them.
