I am a proud Biology nerd and try to instil the same level of excitement and enthusiasm in my tutees! After teaching Biology and Psychology in Asia for the past six years, I have recently returned to the UK and started back into tutoring, something I did extensively before moving abroad. Last year I had five great students who all did very well in their final exams.
I have been teaching for 13 years, as both a teacher of Biology and Psychology. I have worked at independent schools in London (where I was Head of Year 10/11), Beijing (Lead Teacher of Biology and Psychology IBDP) and, most recently, Bangkok (Head of Psychology). Across those roles I have taught Biology and Psychology at GCSE, A-Level and IBDP levels.
Prior to moving abroad I tutored in London for 4-5 years, working with tutees who were studying GCSE & A-level. Last year I returned to tutoring and worked with four A-level Bio students and a GCSE student.
Their results ended up being:
- student 1: from E at AS to B grade overall
- student 2: from C at AS to B grade overall
- student 3: from E at AS to A grade overall
- student 4: from D at AS to B grade overall
- GCSE student: B in Higher Level Biology (from E in mock exams)
I like to start off by getting to know my tutee's 'red, amber, green' areas - what are they really struggling with, what are they ok with and what do they need little additional support on. Following this, I will structure the sessions to review the knowledge and understanding of a particular red/amber topic that challenges them, then move on to application in exam questions, before finishing off with the student teaching the concept back to me. This approach has been very successful in the past and my students have all gone up at least one grade level following our work together.
As well as individual tutoring sessions, I am able to do small group sessions of up to 3 students for a reduced individual cost (please contact me to discuss).
