I am a mother of two primary aged children. I have two dogs and two cats. We live in the countryside. As a family we enjoy gardening and dog walks and creating our own kitchen experiments!
I firmly believe that creating warm and positive relationships with young people is the key to getting them on board and enabling them to achieve their potential, while maintaining professional boundaries. My students see me as an approachable teacher with a sense of humour and they know that I will do my absolute best for them.
I have 12 years of teaching experience specialising in Chemistry at A-level and all three sciences at GCSE. At my last school I was the second in department for science, part of my role was to support and mentor other teachers and review their performance. I have taught several specifications including AQA, OCR and Edexcel. During the ‘lockdowns’ I learnt how to teach online. I currently tutor students from my home for GCSE. I left teaching in the classroom to support my mother through her treatment for breast cancer (she is now fully recovered) and to move home and my children’s school. I have a lot of experience teaching students with SEND, those who need that extra boost that one-to-one teaching provides and exam preparation.
Throughout my career I have always sought to put students at the heart of my teaching and to personalise the curriculum to engage students and to ensure that they all become independent learners with high aspirations. I believe that students progress quickly when they are provided with clear advice on how to improve and I have trialled in my own classes the FAR marking method (feedback, advice and response). I pride myself on creating varied, interactive lessons where students feel comfortable enough to allow themselves to be challenged academically. I have created a wealth of differentiated resources, some of which are recommended resources on the TES website.
