Current PhD Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning Engineering research student, having recently graduated in Civil and Environmental Engineering - both at the University of Edinburgh.
In 2018 selected for the Hydro Nations Leadership Programme, for emerging and existing thought leaders to co-create paths towards a world leading sustainable economy in Scotland. This adds to placements received at award winning engineering firms, Scottish Water and Hoare Lea. More recently in 2023, I worked at Plymouth Marine Laboratory as AI & Machine Learning Data Scientist, on projects funded by the European Space Agency.
Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology were subjects I pursued an understanding of, and achieved highly in, throughout school. I have previously returned to my old High School to assist in teaching Sciences, Physics and Maths at all levels.
In addition to helping over 15 tutees across Edinburgh better their abilities, I have also been fortunate enough to have contributed over 100 hours of school service in the past assisting classes in Science and P.E. at Inverkeithing High School (IHS).
In November 2016 I returned to IHS as an assistant teacher in Physics and Maths up to Advanced Higher Level. This forms part of volunteering through STEM-net, an ambitious body that strives to inspire Scotlands youth into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects.
As a postgraduate research student, I have 200+ hours experience as Teaching Assistant at University level in STEM related courses. This involves tutoring, lab-demonstration and marking roles.
As AI & Machine Learning Data Scientist at Plymouth Marine Laboratory I have provided bespoke expertise to researchers at top tier Universities in areas of code optimisation and AI & Machine Learning.
My approach is to not just teach course material, but to teach tutees how to learn the material themselves in a way that suits them best. As well as building and developing tutee confidence, this approach further prepares students for University.
Feedback from students I have helped consistently praised constant commitment and patience to work through material with them, as opposed to supplying questions and walking away.
