I am a 48 year old teacher of mathematics and live in Uckfield with my wife and two boys aged 13 and 15. I have a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics (1992) and a PGCE in Mathematics (1993), both from Sheffield University. I teach maths to all ages and abilities and have extensive experience of delivering both the GCSE and A-level curriculum across a range of exam boards. Free time is spent mountain biking, road cycling and cooking.
I have an enhanced DBS/CRB.
My advertised fees are for a 45 minute session (I also offer a 30 minute lesson at £35) tutoring at my home / FaceTime / WhatsApp but I am happy to travel to you for which I charge an additional £1 per mile (round trip) as a contribution to my travel time.
I have taught in East Sussex secondary schools for 24 years and have been Head of Maths for the past 8. In 2001 I was recognised as one of the most gifted Mathematics teachers in the country and awarded the position of Advanced Skills Teacher, requiring me to support and train teachers across Primary and Secondary schools in the county.
In addition to school based positions, I have been a senior exam marker and a research fellow for an interactive whiteboard company.
Tutoring one-to-one offers students the opportunity to make accelerated progress. This happens through skilful diagnosis of the issues and barriers to learning and having a variety of approaches to explaining these topics once identified. Clear explanations together with building trust and developing confidence is at the heart of what I do.
